Day 2: Lindale, TX to Sweetwater, TX

Updated: Oct 17, 2018

We woke up around 6am and started to check out our weather.  We checked the weather last night, but didn't expect it to be identical by this morning.  We decided last night that we would just hang around the Best Western till 9am to let the rain get past us.  By the time I got out of the shower, Dad felt like that if we left by 8am, we could possibly get ahead of the rain.  Boy, were we wrong!  LOL.

We had just a little sprinkle by the time we made it to Denny's and we figured now would be a good time to eat breakfast and let the rain pass or clear up.  By the time we were finished, it appeared that we were right.  Those clouds were clearing up.  Nope...  Apparently it took a turn and reformed on us and pretty much rained on us from the beginning of Dallas all the way through Fort Worth.  We did come some clearing skies after Fort Worth.  The sun even decided to come out a few spots.  The road was absolutely beautiful!  By the time we made it to the Ranch House Motel, we did get a few more showers, but not too bad.  Not nearly like it was on the Dallas - Fort Worth stretch.

My dad has chosen the Ranch House Motel as our destination for this day.  Not a bad place.  Just like the Best Western we stayed at last night, the inside of the rooms were better than what the outsides looked like.  (Whew!)  Right next door, there was a BBQ restaurant called "Buck's Steak and Bar-B-Que".  That's where the three of us ate our late lunch (around 2pm).  I had myself a Steak Southwest Salad with Jalapeno Ranch dressing.  Very good!

About an hour or so later, my Uncle and his crew of three showed up at the motel.  They all rode in from Lincoln, NE.  Let's see, they came in on two Harley's, my Uncle's Yamaha, and the forth guy rode up in Honda - Africa Twin?  It looks like a hybrid road and dirt bike.  Ha!  He's probably the only one in our group that will have the proper bike for Big Bend!

Here are all seven of our bikes lined up at The Ranch House Motel.

We all ended up going right back to "Buck's BBQ" for dinner as well.  If you ever go here, you'll want to get the pork chop.  Trust me!

Just got word that everyone gassed up as I was typing this.  So, I better head down the road and fill up myself.  Which is good since I can get a diet soda and a snack for the room.

I hope this was interesting enough for those that are reading!  I hope to capture more pictures and provide more stories of our ride when we arrive in Big Bend tomorrow.  Good night!!!
